A marginalium (plural: marginalia, from the Latin margo, marginis — “margin”) is a note, drawing, or sign traced in the margin of a manuscript. It may have been added by a scribe providing supplementary information, or by a scholarly or liturgical reader wishing to contribute commentary, reflection, or teaching. The margin thus becomes a space the annotator may inhabit, whether by command or by choice. — Definition from Wikipedia
